The Not-Facebook-Phone Facebook Home Released Officially to Be Able to Turn Any Android Smartphone into A Facebook Phone

The rumors and reports about an HTC-based Facebook phone have choked up people’s mind recently, especially for those Facebook fans. Now, finally Facebook unveiled this long anticipated Facebook Home to all people. Surprisingly, the freshly released Facebook Home is not a rumored Facebook phone manufactured by HTC exactly, but has the capability to turn any Android smartphone into a Facebook phone. Simply put, the fresh Facebook Home is an Android launcher - replacing the stock interface of an Android device it is installed on with a new one, built around Facebook social networking from the ground up.

As Mark Zuckerberg himself puts it, Facebook Home is designed around people instead of prioritizing apps like other phone interfaces do. By doing so, the software aims to deliver a more personal experience to Facebook users. At the same time, it should be easy to use with its minimalist, simple interface. As soon as the phone is turned on, the user's list of notification appears with their profile picture at the bottom. Need to dismiss something? Then all it takes is a swipe to the side. Gone are the traditional home screens for placing widgets on. Instead, it's all information about whatever your friends are up to. A swipe up brings the list of all installed applications.

Facebook scheduled to introduce HTC-based Facebook Home Android OS smartphone on April 4th Event

The cooperation between HTC and Facebook to produce another HTC-based Facebook smartphone has been rumored a lot. Previously, there’re reports that said HTC Myst would be the Facebook smartphone, with detailed specs leaked online already. Whether this report is true or not could be seen in the coming days, as Facebook has introduced various medias to take part in an April 4^th Android event. Facebook just sent invitations for its Android-related media event (showed in the picture below) on April 4th, which reads “Come See Our New Home on Android.” According to sources, Facebook would call this new Android-related Facebook experience “Facebook Home…”

As reported, Facebook and HTC are selling their phone and OS as a lifestyle brand, not specifically for its hardware or software. Facebook and HTC previously hooked up on the Salsa and Cha-cha devices which frankly flopped. This will be a deeper, forked version of Android rather than a Facebook-ified version of Sense. Of course, the hardware and software for this phone are competitive with the current mobile device landscape.

Facebook Phone Based on Mozilla Firefox OS to Be Released in the Latter Half of 2013

The rumors about the new Facebook Phones have continued for a long time. Just recently, Mozilla Hispano has an interesting post on its blog today: “Facebook Phone OS based on Firefox“. On a rough translation of the blog post to English, it is mainly about the operating system and the official release date of the rumored Facebook phones. The post goes to say that Mozilla and Facebook have reached an agreement to distribute a Facebook Phone in the latter half of 2013 and that the phone is based on Firefox OS. It’s illustrated with a handset decked out in Facebook blue and white with a log in prompt on the screen in Polish and Facebook Inc. stamped on the back.

As specs leaked from Mozilla, this Facebook phone would run on 1GB RAM with 8GB memory storage. This new ZTE OEM smartphone is also indicated to be released in the latter half of 2013. Considering the proclaiming of Facebook CTO Bret Taylor to schedule the official release of the first Facebook phone on February 26^th on the Mobile World Congress 2013, Mozilla’s act might only be a prank to people.
