6 Best Affordable 1080P and Quad-core Smartphones

The Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One might be the best selling devices right now, but they are not the only devices featuring a 1080p display and a quad-core processor. Actually, if you are not a gamer to care about the absolute best performance on a phone, there are plenty of alternatives.

The Galaxy S4 and the One both cost north of $600 off contract, but what if we told you that you can get a phone with a 1080p display and a quad-core processor for around $200? That’s a third of the price, and with processor technologies taking a huge leap, performance on these devices is lag-free.

There are a few things we should warn you about, though. The first one is that you’d have to overcome your fear of buying a smartphone from a white-box manufacturer. These phones are made in China and carry unknown brand names like Xiaomi, Umi, Zopo and Tianhe, but many of them are put together in the same facilities that manufacture iPhones and Galaxies.

The second one is plastic. If you care about the absolute premium design with aluminum unibodies, you won’t find it here. The third one is the lack of 4G LTE connectivity - those phones are great performers in terms of processing power but virtually none support LTE speeds. And finally, for some reason they all tend to perform poorly when it comes to video recording. Don’t worry about image stills - they are mostly okay, but a lot of the Chinese phones have not yet figured out a way to do so well in video.

With no further ado, here are the best affordable 1080p quad-core phones, take a look.

Umi X2 - prices from $229.99
Umi X2

The Umi X2 features a 5-inch 1080p display, a quad-core MT6589 chip with 1GB of RAM, a 13-megapixel rear camera and an 8.9mm thick body. On top of this you get plentiful 16GB internal storage.

Zopo C2 - $249.99
Zopo C2
The Zopo C2 comes with a 5-inch 1080p screen, a quad-core MT6589 chip with 1GB of RAM and a 13-megapixel camera. It’s only 8.5mm thick, but on the downside it only has 4 gigs of internal storage. Still, it’s one of our favorites.

GooPhone X7 - $254.99
GooPhone X7
The GooPhone X7 has a similar configuration - 5” 1080p screen, MT6589 quad-core chip with 1GB of RAM, 4 gigs of internal storage and a 13-megapixel, but it’s a bit bulkier than the rest with a 9.5mm thick body.

Star S4 - $249.99
Star S4
The Star S4 is a great Galaxy S4 clone with a 5” 1080p screen, MT6589 chip with 1GB of RAM, 1GB of internal storage and a 12-megapixel camera. It’s a bit thicker than the average though measuring 10mm.

ThL W8+ - $249.99
ThL W8+
ThL stands for Technology Happy Life and how can you not love such a brand? It offers the ThL W8+ with the same 5” 1080p screen and a MT6589 quad-core with 1 gig of RAM combo as the rest. Plus, it adds 16GB of internal storage, but beware - this phone is way too bulky measuring a whopping 12mm in thickness.

iOcean X7 - $212.99
iOcean X7
The iOcean X7 is the cheapest phone in our selection. It still offers the same 5” 1080p screen with a MT6589 chip with 1 gig of RAM, but the rear camera on it is an 8-megapixel one and it only has 4GB of internal storage. Sadly, it’s fairly thick at 10.8mm that would make handling it a bit hard.
