Top 10 Most Anticipated Sci-Fi Movies of 2017

Quickly, the 2016 would come to its end. With there being a few new sci-fi movies coming in 2016, we’re ready to look ahead at what movies are coming in 2017 and beyond. 2017 is going to be absolutely insane, and may be the biggest year for geeky movies in recent memory, with Marvel, DC, Star Wars, X-Men, and pretty much everyone else churning out huge blockbusters. Today, let’s take a look at what sci-fi movies we could expect for 2017 by collecting a list of top 10 most anticipated sci-fi movies of 2017.

Wonder Woman - June 2nd, 2017

The story will explore the character’s origin, tracking the immortal Princess Diana’s rise as a warrior on the mythic island of Themyscira – and her eventual quest beyond its boundaries to the realm of ordinary men, where she will fight for this outside world amid the backdrop of World War I. Hints of the movie are foreshadowed in Batman v Superman, and the Wonder Woman film will include a modern framing story set after the events of that clash of heroes, according to producer Charles Roven.

Spider-Man: Homecoming - July 7th, 2017

Marvel's Spiderman movie is set to reboot the franchise and bring the iconic Marvel character into The Avengers team. We will see the first appearance of Spider-man in Captain America: Civil War and he'll be wearing two suits.

Why two suits? Rumor has it, in the beginning of the movie Peter Parker is supposed to be dawning a homemade suit, and by the end of the film Tony Stark will be handing him the iconic red and blue suit we all know and love.

Transformers: The Last Knight - June 23rd, 2017

The Last Knight has Optimus Prime searching through the cosmos for the Quintessons, the beings believed to be responsible for the creation of the Transformers race. Meanwhile back at home, Wahlberg's Cade Yeager will be facing a new alien threat that brings Lennox (and possibly Epps) back into duty. Isabela Moner has signed on as the female lead, though no character details have been revealed. The movie also has Jerrod Carmichael from NBC's The Carmichael Show as the comedic relief this time out. Shooting will take place in Detroit, with various on-location shoots planned to take place throughout the world.

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter - January 27th, 2017

Picking up immediately after the events in Resident Evil: Retribution, humanity is on its last legs in Washington D.C. As the only survivor of what was meant to be humanity's final stand against the undead hordes, Alice must return to where the nightmare began - Raccoon City, where the Umbrella Corporation is gathering its forces for a final strike against the only remaining survivors of the apocalypse. In a race against time Alice will join forces with old friends, and an unlikely ally, in an action packed battle with undead hordes and new mutant monsters. Between regaining her superhuman abilities at Wesker's hand and Umbrella's impending attack, this will be Alice's most difficult adventure as she fights to save humanity, which is on the brink of oblivion.

Thor: Ragnarok - November 3rd, 2017

Also known as Thor 3, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) will return to Asgard when his home realm is threatened by the Ragnarok, which is the Norse apocalypse. Marvel's Kevin Feige has promised that Thor: Ragnarok is "a very important movie for us in Marvel Phase 3...we plan on taking Thor to another level."

War for the Planet of the Apes – July 14th, 2017

In War for the Planet of the Apes, the third chapter of the critically acclaimed blockbuster franchise, Caesar and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel. After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.

Avatar 2 - December 25th, 2017

This sequel will further explore the relationship between the Na'vi and the humans that have interrupted their peaceful existence. The storyline in the sequels really follows Jake and Neytiri and their children. It’s more of a family saga about the struggle with the humans.

Wolverine 3 - March 3, 2017

The story is about chase, capture and bidding. A global corporation wants to find Wolverine. Holbrook’s character is tasked with the mission and he will go to several lengths to capture our adamantium fitted mutant. He is going to be the main villain of Wolverine 3, which suggests that he will go toe to toe with other mutants from Xavier’s School, who would definitely try to protect Logan from getting in the wrong hands.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 - May 5, 2017

This is a big year for Marvel, with Captain America: Civil War and Doctor Strange, but 2017 is going to be a monster for the MCU, starting with the highly anticipated sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy, which is arguably the best MCU movie so far. James Gunn will once again direct (and once again got the rights to all of his first-choice songs for the soundtrack), and the team will add two new members: Mantis, played by Pom Klementieff, and an unknown character played by Elizabeth Debicki. Kurt Russell also joined the cast in a "mystery role," which is heavily rumored to be Star Lord's father.

Alien: Covenant - October 6, 2017

Remember when we were still pretending this was a Prometheus sequel? That's pretty much been abandoned, between the title change and the elimination of the entire cast except for Michael Fassbender. Ridley Scott will return to direct the film, which will take place ten years after the events of Prometheus and will explore the Engineers' planet, Paradise.
